Our Monthly Meeting at 1900 on Monday 25 July 2022
At Waverley RSL – Sunset Room
161 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley
This 50-minute video is Part 3 of the History of the Royal Australian Navy, produced by the Sea Power Centre Australia.
It provides an excellent account of our Navy’s development since the end of World War 2 in the Pacific, with a range of prominent speakers who place this development in the context of shifting and new alliances and regional conflicts, to the end of the Vietnam War
It enlightens understanding of significant capability improvements in the RAN as it adjusted to the missile age, including establishing the WRANS as a permanent and key element of Navy’s workforce.
Transition from the wartime fleet included the acquisition of two new light aircraft carriers (HMA Ships Sydney and Melbourne), deploying modern new aircraft squadrons. New Oberon Class submarines, Minesweepers, US-built Guided Missile Destroyers, Australian-built Destroyer Escorts, a major maintenance vessel, a new Hydrographic ship and a modern replenishment ship were among the major changes to the fleet inventory.
This very informative video is highly recommended viewing for those wanting to understand the RAN’s development in the context of the changing times.
Members and Guests are most welcome
A relaxing meal and drink beforehand in the RSL’s delightful Warramunga Room is always a pleasant prelude to the 1900 meeting
