After Japan capitulated, HMAS Shropshire was rightfully present with the Allied Fleet in Tokyo Bay when the surrender was signed on 2nd September, 1945 – and was Australia’s most powerful fighting ship at the close of World War II.
The service and heroic achievements of HMAS Shropshire and HMAS Arunta have made an outstanding contribution to Australian Naval History, in our own time, and are truly part of our National Heritage.
